Use it to compare, not to audit.
The number is an estimate built on your own assumptions, so its real value is in comparisons: what thirty extra days costs against what you would spend to shorten the search, or how much the answer moves if the role is worth two times its cost instead of three.
The longer a scarce role stays open, the more it tends to cost, which is why the hardest roles to fill deserve the earliest attention. If you are hiring Forward Deployed Engineers or data and AI talent, check how ready your own process is with the hiring readiness scorecard.
Cost of a vacancy, answered.
The calculator takes the role's annual cost to company, multiplies it by the value you expect the role to produce relative to that cost, and spreads it over 365 days. That gives the value not being produced each day the seat is empty. Any monthly cover costs you enter, such as contractors or overtime, are added on top.
Only you can judge that, because it depends on the role. A multiple of 1 means the role just pays for itself, which is a cautious floor. Roles that bring in revenue, ship product or serve customers directly usually justify a higher number. Try a few values and use the results to compare scenarios, not as an accounting figure.
