The engineer who can sit in the customer's world and actually deliver is the scarcest hire on your team.
Forward Deployed Engineers embed with a customer, ship and iterate on production systems, and own the outcome, not just the code. Postings for the role grew 729% year over year (Indeed data, April 2026, via LeadDev), and most hiring processes were never designed to find it.

Deployment, not the model, is where enterprise AI stalls.
MIT Project NANDA ("The GenAI Divide: State of AI in Business," 2025) found that 95% of enterprise AI pilots show no measurable business return, and that deployment, not the model, is the bottleneck. Getting systems working inside a real organisation is exactly the job an FDE does, and it is why a strong coder is not automatically a strong FDE.
Half engineer, half consultant
The role pairs production engineering with customer-facing judgement: scoping an ambiguous problem, explaining trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders, reading what the customer actually needs. Few candidates have both, and most interview loops only test the first.
Standard interviews test the wrong thing
Algorithm rounds find strong coders. They do not reveal who can defend a decision to a sceptical executive, or recover when the customer's environment does not match the plan.
A thin, new talent pool
The title only recently went mainstream, so few engineers have held it by that name. The signal is usually in what someone has done, such as embedded delivery, customer-facing technical work and solutions or deployment roles, rather than in a job title.
Bizquad looks at what a candidate has delivered in front of customers, not at the title on their CV. We assess technical depth alongside the same six signals we coach for in Bizquad Elevate: explaining technical decisions, business communication, storytelling, trade-offs, executive presence and customer read, so the profiles you meet are ready for the customer-facing half of the job.
