Global Capability Centres

Hyderabad now has 515 global capability centres. Here is what that does to tech hiring.

Bizquad · 18 October 2026 · 2 min read

A FICCI-Anarock report puts Hyderabad's global capability centre (GCC) count at 515 as of March 2026. Those centres employ more than 3 lakh people and make up about 20% of India's GCC base. The city expects 50 to 70 more within a year.

For anyone hiring technology talent in India, the headline number matters less than what sits behind it.

What the report says

  • Office leasing by GCCs in Hyderabad grew from 1.9 million sq ft in 2021 to 4.5 million sq ft in 2025, and more than 3 million sq ft was already leased in the first half of 2026.
  • Prime office rent is Rs 95 to 115 per sq ft, lower than in Bengaluru.

Taken together, these point to Hyderabad moving from a backup to Bengaluru to a first-choice location for new centres.

The sector mix is the bigger shift

Our reading of the report is that Hyderabad is drawing life sciences, semiconductor and banking and financial services centres, not only the IT and IT-enabled services players that built the market. We would check the full report for the exact breakdown.

If that is right, it matters for hiring. Different sectors compete for different skills, so the talent market in the city is becoming broader as well as bigger. A semiconductor centre and a banking technology centre may both be hiring engineers, but they are not looking for the same engineer.

What it means if you are hiring there

  • Expect more competition for the same people. With 50 to 70 new centres hiring locally within a year, experienced engineers, especially in data, cloud and AI, will have more options, and offers will need to move faster.
  • Be precise about the role. "We need AI talent" is not a brief when several sectors are fishing in the same pool. Decide whether you need data engineering, applied machine learning or LLM integration before you write the job description. We have set out how those roles differ.
  • Do not plan around one city. Lower rent is one reason centres choose Hyderabad, but talent costs follow demand. Leaders planning an India expansion should price in rising competition now, before costs catch up.
  • Start early on the scarce roles. The hardest hires to make quickly are the ones few people have done before. Beginning those searches before the new centres open gives you a head start.

The report is a reminder that where you locate a team and how you hire for it are the same decision.
